Introduced by Thor Dalebø of Normandy, France, France in 2012, Canna (Balisier) ‘River Thames’ is a small aquatic cultivar, equally at home as a water marginal or in the border; glaucous green foliage, small, lanceolate shaped, transparent margin, upright habit; oval main stems, coloured green; triangular flower stalks, coloured green; spikes of flowers are trumpet, self-coloured gold, staminodes are narrow, edges regular, labellum is burnt-red with a wide gold margin, stamen is gold, style is burnt-red, petals yellow, fully self-cleaning, good bloomer, flowers in summer until frosts, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not true to type, self-pollinating, capsules round; rhizomes are long and thin, coloured white; tillering is average.
