Introduced by Thor Dalebø of Normandy, France, France in 2002, Canna (Balisier) ‘John Layden’ is a small Crozy Group cultivar; green foliage, oval shaped, transparent margin, branching habit; oval main stems, coloured green; triangular flower stalks, coloured green; spikes of flowers are open, cerise-pink with a narrow gold margin, staminodes are medium size, edges irregular, petals yellow, fully self-cleaning, outstanding bloomer, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not self-pollinating or true to type, capsules globose; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured white and purple; tillering is slow.

Canna ‘John Layden’ is available from specialist growers; breeding is A. Eisenbarth x open.
