Introduced by Karl Sprenger of Messrs Dammann et Cie, Italy, Canna (Balisier) ‘Asia’ is a medium sized Italian Group cultivar; dark green foliage, elliptical-acuminate shaped, white margin, upright habit; oval main stems, coloured green; triangular flower stalks, coloured green; clusters of flowers are cupped, self-coloured saffron-yellow, throat saffron-yellow speckled with scarlet, staminodes are large, edges regular, labellum is saffron-yellow heavily spotted with scarlet, stamen is saffron-yellow with scarlet spots, style is gold, petals green, fully self-cleaning, average bloomer, blooms open in the evening; seed is sterile, pollen is low fertile; rhizomes are long and thin, coloured white; tillering is prolific.
