Introduced by Antoine Wintzer of The Conard & Jones Co., West Grove, Pennsylvania, USA in 1894, Canna (Balisier) ‘Alsace’ is a medium sized Crozy Group cultivar; green foliage, elliptical shaped, acute apex, spreading habit; round main stems, coloured green; triangular flower stalks, coloured green; flowers are open, self-coloured light-cream, staminodes are medium size, edges regular, petals green, fully self-cleaning, late bloomer, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not self-pollinating or true to type, capsules globose; rhizomes are tuber-like groups, coloured white; tillering is slow.
