Introduced by Karl Sprenger of Messrs Dammann et Cie, Italy, Canna (Balisier) ‘Aphrodite (1)’ is a medium sized Italian Group cultivar; green foliage, broadly oblong shaped, upright habit; round main stems, coloured green; triangular flower stalks, coloured green; spikes of flowers are open, gold with salmon blotches, staminodes are medium size, edges irregular, labellum is gold with salmon blotches, stamen is salmon, style is salmon, petals green, fully self-cleaning, outstanding bloomer, blooms open in the early morning; seed is sterile, pollen is low fertile; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured white and pink; tillering is slow.
