Introduced by Sydney Percy-Lancaster, Alipore Cannas, India, Canna (Balisier) ‘Black Knight’ is a tall Crozy Group cultivar; purple foliage, elliptical shaped, acute apex, arching habit; round main stems, coloured purple; clusters of flowers are reflexed, self-coloured crimson-maroon, staminodes are large, edges regular, petals purple with farina, fully self-cleaning, low bloomer, flowers in late summer until frosts, blooms open in the early morning; seed is sterile, pollen is low fertile; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured purple; tillering is good.
