Introduced by Marcelle Sheppard Nursery, Texas, USA in 2005, Canna (Balisier) ‘Zulu Best Friends’ is a medium sized Crozy Group cultivar; bronze foliage, ovoid shaped, acute apex, maroon margin, spreading habit; flowers are open, self-coloured red, staminodes are medium size, edges irregular, petals purple, fully self-cleaning, good bloomer, flowers in summer until frosts, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not self-pollinating or true to type, capsules globose; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured purple; tillering is good.
