Introduced by Vilmorin-Andrieux et Cie, Nurserymen, France in 1941, Canna (Balisier) ‘Valbonne’ is a medium sized Crozy Group cultivar; green foliage, oval and cupped shaped, branching habit; flowers are open, self-coloured rose-red, good bloomer, flowers in summer until frosts, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not self-pollinating or true to type, capsules globose; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured pink and purple; tillering is prolific.
