Introduced by Wilhelm Pfitzer Nursery, Germany, Canna (Balisier) ‘Tchad’ is a medium sized Premier Group cultivar; dark foliage, oval shaped, maroon margin, branching habit; flowers are open, self-coloured maroon, staminodes are large, fully self-cleaning, good bloomer, flowers in summer until frosts, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not self-pollinating or true to type, capsules globose; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured purple; tillering is slow.
