Introduced by Luther Burbank, Nurseryman, USA in 1896, Canna (Balisier) ‘Tarrytown’ is a medium sized Italian Group cultivar; bronze foliage, elliptical shaped, branching habit; oval main stems, coloured purple; clusters of flowers are open, red streaked with burnt-red, staminodes are large, edges ruffled, petals purple with farina, fully self-cleaning, outstanding bloomer, flowers in summer until frosts, blooms open in the early morning; seed is sterile, pollen is low fertile; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured pink and purple; tillering is average.
