Introduced by Pierre Antoine Marie Crozy of Crozy et fil, Lyon , France in 1890, Canna (Balisier) ‘Safrano’ is a medium sized Crozy Group cultivar; green foliage, branching habit; flowers are open, self-coloured saffron-yellow, staminodes are medium size, edges irregular, fully self-cleaning, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not self-pollinating or true to type, capsules globose; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured white; tillering is prolific.
