Introduced by E. Chaté et fils, sentier Saint-Antoine, Saint-Mandé, Paris, France in 1862, Canna (Balisier) ‘Rubra Nerva’ is a medium sized Foliage Group cultivar; green and purple variegated foliage, large, lanceolate shaped, maroon margin, weeping habit; spikes of flowers are erect, self-coloured red, staminodes are long and narrow, edges regular, petals red with farina, fully self-cleaning, low bloomer, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not self-pollinating or true to type, capsules globose; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured purple; tillering is slow.

Canna ‘Rubra Nerva’ is available from specialist growers.
