Chaté et fils, sentier Saint-Antoine, Saint-Mandé, Paris, France in 1862, Canna (Balisier) ‘Purpurea hybrida’ is a medium sized Foliage Group cultivar; dark-red, rayed reddish-purple foliage, oval shaped, branching habit; oval main stems, coloured purple; spikes of flowers are open, self-coloured orange-yellow, staminodes are long and narrow, edges regular, petals red with farina, fully self-cleaning, good bloomer, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not self-pollinating or true to type, capsules globose; rhizomes are tuber-like groups, coloured purple; tillering is prolific.
