Introduced by Pierre Antoine Marie Crozy of Crozy et fil, Lyon , France in 1887, Canna (Balisier) ‘Purpurea Floribunda’ is a tall Foliage Group cultivar; purple foliage, large, oval shaped, acute apex, spreading habit; oval main stems, coloured purple; spikes of flowers are erect, self-coloured redcurrant, staminodes are long and narrow, edges regular, petals red, fully self-cleaning, good bloomer, flowers in early autumn until frosts, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not true to type, self-pollinating, capsules globose; rhizomes are thick, up to 7 cm in diameter, coloured purple; tillering is prolific.
