Introduced by Bernard Yorke, Australia in 2006, Canna (Balisier) ‘Polonaise’ is a medium sized Crozy Group cultivar; green foliage, oval shaped, spreading habit; oval main stems, coloured green; clusters of flowers are open, magenta with a wide yellow margin, staminodes are large, edges regular, petals red, fully self-cleaning, outstanding bloomer, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not self-pollinating or true to type, capsules globose; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured pink and purple; tillering is prolific.
Canna ‘Polonaise’ is available from specialist growers; breeding is C. ‘Annjee'( C. ‘Una’ x open) x C. ‘Cardinal’.
