Introduced by Théodore Année, Passy, France in 1861, Canna (Balisier) ‘Nervosa’ is a medium sized Foliage Group cultivar; green and purple variegated foliage, maroon margin, branching habit; oval main stems, coloured purple; spikes of flowers are erect, self-coloured crimson, staminodes are long and narrow, edges regular, labellum is crimson, stamen is crimson, style is red, petals red, fully self-cleaning, good bloomer, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not true to type, self-pollinating, capsules round; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured white and purple; tillering is prolific.
