Introduced by Henri Cayeux Nursery, France in 1924, Canna (Balisier) ‘Montaigne’ is a medium sized Crozy Group cultivar; bronze foliage, oblong shaped, maroon margin, branching habit; oval main stems, coloured purple; triangular flower stalks, coloured purple; flowers are open, red with a rose blush, staminodes are medium size, edges ruffled, petals purple with farina, partial self-cleaning, outstanding bloomer, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not self-pollinating or true to type, capsules globose; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter.
