Introduced by H. Faiss, Canna (Balisier) ‘Lucifer’ is a small Crozy Group cultivar; green foliage, lanceolate shaped, acute apex, branching habit; clusters of flowers are open, orient-red with a wide aureolin yellow margin, staminodes are medium size, edges irregular, petals green, fully self-cleaning, low bloomer, flowers in summer until frosts, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not self-pollinating or true to type, capsules globose; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured pink and purple; tillering is slow.

Canna ‘Lucifer’ is available from specialist growers.

One of the most popular of Canna varieties, and yet little is known about it’s origins. Past experience states that it most likely a re-packaged older variety, given a new name and much marketing razamataz.Thor Dalebø
