Introduced by Pierre Antoine Marie Crozy of Crozy et fil, Lyon , France in 1884, Canna (Balisier) ‘Légionnaires’ is a small Crozy Group cultivar; green foliage, oval shaped, maroon margin, branching habit; oval main stems, coloured green; flowers are open, self-coloured crimson, staminodes are medium size, edges regular, petals purple, fully self-cleaning, outstanding bloomer, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not self-pollinating or true to type, capsules globose; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured pink and purple; tillering is average.
