Introduced by Alice Harris of Karchesky Canna, Pennsylvania, USA, Canna (Balisier) ‘Le Pourpre’ is a medium sized Foliage Group cultivar; green and purple variegated foliage, maroon margin, branching habit; oval main stems, coloured purple; spikes of flowers are erect, self-coloured vermilion, staminodes are narrow, late bloomer, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not self-pollinating or true to type, capsules round; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured purple; tillering is prolific.
