Introduced by Herman Gerritsma, Netherlands, Canna (Balisier) ‘Herman’ is a medium sized Crozy Group cultivar; purple foliage, large, lanceolate shaped, acute apex, maroon margin, spreading habit; spikes of flowers are open, self-coloured red, staminodes are narrow, edges regular, petals purple with farina, fully self-cleaning, good bloomer, flowers in summer until frosts, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not self-pollinating or true to type, capsules globose; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured purple; tillering is good.
Canna ‘Herman’ is available from specialist growers; breeding is Sport of C. ‘Brillant’.
