Introduced by Pierre Antoine Marie Crozy of Crozy et fil, Lyon , France in 1889, Canna (Balisier) ‘Frederich Benary’ is a tall Italian Group cultivar; green foliage, ovoid shaped, acute apex, branching habit; clusters of flowers are open, orange-red with a gold margin, staminodes are large, edges regular, petals red with farina, fully self-cleaning, good bloomer, flowers in late summer until frosts, blooms open in the early morning; seed is sterile, pollen is low fertile; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured purple; tillering is good.
