Introduced by Alice Harris of Karchesky Canna, Pennsylvania, USA, Canna (Balisier) ‘Flammé Rouge’ is a medium sized Premier Group cultivar; dark green foliage, elliptical shaped, acute apex, maroon margin, spreading habit; clusters of flowers are open, vermilion speckled with orange-red, throat gold, staminodes are large, edges regular, petals purple, fully self-cleaning, good bloomer, flowers in summer until frosts, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not self-pollinating or true to type, capsules globose; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured purple; tillering is good.
