Introduced by Marcelle Sheppard Nursery, Texas, USA in 1989, Canna (Balisier) ‘Fantastic Red’ is a medium sized Crozy Group cultivar; green foliage, elliptical shaped, acute apex, red margin; flowers are open, self-coloured wine-red, staminodes are medium size, edges irregular, petals purple, fully self-cleaning, average bloomer, flowers in late summer until frosts, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not self-pollinating or true to type, capsules globose; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured purple; tillering is average.
