Introduced by Marcelle Sheppard Nursery, Texas, USA, Canna (Balisier) ‘Chinese Lantern’ is a tall Crozy Group cultivar; green foliage, oval shaped, branching habit; clusters of flowers are open, orange-red streaked with yellow, staminodes are large, edges frilled, petals red with farina, fully self-cleaning, good bloomer, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not self-pollinating or true to type; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured pink and purple; tillering is average.
