Introduced by Alice Harris of Karchesky Canna, Pennsylvania, USA, Canna (Balisier) ‘Chelsea’ is a small Premier Group cultivar; mid green foliage, ovoid shaped, obtuse apex, white margin, spreading habit; clusters of flowers are open, cream with an apricot-orange blush, staminodes are large, edges regular, petals green, fully self-cleaning, outstanding bloomer, flowers in summer until frosts, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not self-pollinating or true to type, capsules globose; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured white and pink; tillering is good.
