Introduced by Podgora Gardens Nursery, New Zealand, Canna (Balisier) ‘Cardinal Flame’ is a medium sized Italian Group cultivar; bronze foliage, broadly ovoid shaped, acute apex, branching habit; clusters of flowers are open, yellow-orange with wine-red spots, staminodes are medium size, edges lightly frilled, petals red with farina, partial self-cleaning, good bloomer, flowers in late summer until frosts, blooms open in the early morning; seed is sterile, pollen is low fertile; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured pink and purple; tillering is slow.
