Introduced by Friedrich Kraenzlin in 1912, Canna (Balisier) ‘bangii’ is a giant species; green foliage, large, elliptical shaped, acute apex, spreading habit; spikes of flowers are erect, self-coloured orange-red, staminodes are long and narrow, edges regular, fully self-cleaning, outstanding bloomer, flowers in late summer until frosts, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, self-pollinating and also true to type, capsules round; rhizomes are thick, up to 7 cm in diameter, coloured white and purple; tillering is prolific.
Canna ‘bangii’ is available from specialist growers.
