Introduced by Théodore Année, Passy, France in 1863, Canna (Balisier) ‘Aurantiaca zebrina’ is a medium sized Foliage Group cultivar; green and purple variegated foliage, large, ovoid shaped, maroon margin, branching habit; oval main stems, coloured green + purple; flowers are erect, self-coloured red, staminodes are small, edges regular, petals purple with farina, fully self-cleaning, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, self-pollinating and also true to type, capsules globose; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured pink and purple; tillering is prolific.
