Introduced by Captain Charles Frederick Cole, Australia, Canna (Balisier) ‘Alex Cole’ is a medium sized Crozy Group cultivar; green foliage, elliptical shaped, acute apex, transparent margin, branching habit; clusters of flowers are open, yellow heavily spotted with scarlet, staminodes are medium size, edges regular, labellum is scarlet rayed with yellow, stamen is scarlet, style is scarlet, petals green, fully self-cleaning, outstanding bloomer, flowers in late summer until frosts, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not self-pollinating or true to type, capsules globose; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured white and pink; tillering is average.
