Canna (Balisier) ‘Red Cleopatra’ is a medium sized Italian Group cultivar; dark foliage, oval shaped, branching habit; oval main stems, coloured purple; clusters of flowers are open, self-coloured red, staminodes are large, edges regular, petals purple with farina, fully self-cleaning, average bloomer, blooms open in the early morning; seed is sterile, pollen is low fertile; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured purple; tillering is slow.

Canna ‘Red Cleopatra’ is available from specialist growers; breeding is Cleopatra chimera mutation.

This is a chimera mutation from Cleopatra to this new identity. Inheritably unstable, this will also revert back on some stalks to green foliage and yellow/red spotted flowers, or even foliage and flowers that are divided into both colour schemes.Thor Dalebø
