Introduced by Vilmorin-Andrieux et Cie, Nurserymen, France in 1920, Canna (Balisier) ‘Libération’ is a medium sized Italian Group cultivar; dark green foliage, oval-acuminate shaped, white margin, branching habit; oval main stems, coloured purple; triangular flower stalks, coloured purple; flowers are open, self-coloured yellow-orange, staminodes are large, edges ruffled, petals purple with farina, fully self-cleaning, outstanding bloomer, blooms open in the early morning; seed is sterile, pollen is fertile; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured white and purple; tillering is prolific.
