Introduced by Raik Marquardt, Canna (Balisier) ‘Tornado’ is a medium sized Foliage Group cultivar; variegated foliage, oblong shaped, acute apex, arching habit; clusters of flowers are erect, self-coloured red, staminodes are medium size, edges regular, petals purple with farina, fully self-cleaning, good bloomer, flowers in early summer until frosts, blooms open in the early morning; seed is sterile, pollen is fertile; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured pink and purple; tillering is good.
