Introduced by Théodore Année, Passy, France in 1861, Canna (Balisier) ‘Rubra Perfecta’ is a medium sized Foliage Group cultivar; dark red rayed with purple foliage, lanceolate shaped, acute apex, maroon margin, branching habit; spikes of flowers are erect, self-coloured orange-red, staminodes are long and narrow, edges regular, labellum is orange-red, stamen is orange-red, style is red, petals purple, fully self-cleaning, good bloomer, blooms open in the early morning; fertile both ways, not self-pollinating or true to type, capsules globose; rhizomes are thick, up to 3 cm in diameter, coloured purple; tillering is prolific.
